Summer time tutoring!

I had asked some parents at the end of the school year if they would be interested in me holding some tutoring times in the summer, and was quite surprised with the amount of positive responses. So I was really surprised when ALL of them eventually bailed.

At first I was a little bummed, but came to love true 'relaxation' of not needing to plan lessons or keep track of progress. But as the summer is coming to a close, well at least for us teachers, I thought that I could use a few tutoring sessions to just get my head back in the game. (and also my wallet wouldn't mind either!) So I sent out a last email to parents of my most recent class offering tutoring again... But this time I went straight to the lingo that every parent loves to hear... Things like 'I already know where your child left off, so it will be easy for me to help get them further'... 'get your child a head start on 2nd grade content'... Ect. And I got some bites!(I also up'd my original price since I marketed it being more intense then a regular session)

I had my first session today, and am very proud of how it turned out. I not only have some cash in my wallet (finally!) but also have 3 more sessions lined up. This one was 2 hours long. I know that seams intimidating at first, but with keeping it fun and ending with a small craft, the time went rather quickly. We hit on time for math, 2nd grade HF words, a comprehension page, read the 1st chapter of a Junie B. book, did a retelling activity on that... And finished with making a bottlecap magnet to display her work at home. I put everything we did in a folder with some extras to do at home and sent that with her along with a small pocket chart from the dollar section at Target. (her mom is going to make flashcards with the sight words that she had trouble on for the pocket chart)

All in all, it was a great time catching up with one of my former firsties and making a little extra cash! Now for some weekend fun with my fam! Night ya'll!

Dun... dun... dun..

SO.... day 2... fail.

Yesterday wasn't even that crazy of a day, I guess I just need to try a little harder to make this a priority!

Anywho, very excited today for my new book that just came in the mail ... "Back to School Tortoise" By: Lucy M. George to use on my 1st day of school. I got this idea from another 1st grade blog that I will search for a little later.  It is so super cute, and I can't wait to start making little clues to lead the class on tour of the school. I will be sure to post pictures.  All I need now is a large stuffed animal turtle, lol.

I wanted to give a little credibility to my 'self-proclaimed creativity'... truth is, I LOVE to go the extra mile to show my kids off and the things that we create together. So here is a few things from this past semester.
Here is my 1st bulletin board of 2012: we used pipe cleaners on the hat and I bought the kids those noise makers from the Dollar Tree to add to their faces. Also on their hat, after learning about 'resolutions and goals' they wrote what their goals were for the end of the year

A little while later we changed it up after learning about the Chinese New Years and we made these awesome colorful dragons and the kids also made those lanterns in art class that we added.

Here I am... Ta-Da!!  Extreme Makeover: Home Edition was in San Antonio building a home for the upcoming Christmas special. My kids and I collected snacks and goodies for all of the volunteers and builders. This was such  neat experience and we opened it up for the school to help out too.

Here is me and Hubby helping out!

Here is the final outcome of our goods/services unit. We started with choosing our own goods or service.  Then they had to complete a building proposal to earn their 'Building Permit'.  Once they received that, then they were began to build their business and we learned about trading, and bartering, ect.  We ended with having an 'open house' where we invited parents and admin to come visit our AcevesVille, read our Adds, sign our guestbook ect... It was great.

My class was... obsessed... to say the least, about learning about Venus Fly Traps, so heres the ones we made. We had a fly catching game that kept the kids entertained for quite some time.

100th day door!

That's all for now. My mini-me is awake and is not quite as fond of blogging as I am. BUT I will be back mannana... God Willing :)

Happy Thursday... Day 3...CHECK!

A Pirate's Life For Me!

Okay, So my official 1st 'teacher' summer is comming to a close and this blog is the last thing on my 'Summer Bucket List' that I have paid about zero attention to... better late then never! My goal is to write everyday for 7 days, because it takes 7 days to make a habbit! So here goes day 1:

I finally decided on my classroom theme for this year, and it's going to be Pirates! I am super pumped about getting started on decorating my classroom and with pintrest and other blogs at my side, I have high hopes for this task. I went a little Amazon and TPT crazy last week, and am waiting for a knock on my door for my goodies to arrive! Here is what I have so far...

Tomorrow I am meeting up with a [newly engaged] best friend teacher from my school to have a pintrest party and get some things finalized and started. I'll post pictures of what we acomplish, but to be honest it's the first time that I have seen her since she got the ring, and between wedding planning and my sassy 21 month old running around... we'll see how much we actually get acomplished!

Day 1, CHECK!

Hopefully this is jump start to keep me blogging because I am full of fun and inventive ideas that I love to share, and eventually want to start up a TPT accnt too. Happy Tuesday!
